I firmly believe all of the texts me have reviewed are connected through their theme. They all talk about something that affects us greatly. Social Darwinism is my favorite topic out of everything we've covered . From the flour riots to even mayday we can see social Darwinism in how situations are being handled.Social Darwinism is a twist on the Darwinist principle of survival of the fittest. It connects to our everyday life's. Who's allowed to be in charge who does what. There is always an underlying message those with money have more power then those without. All riots were a power struggle between the rich and the poor.
The Destruction of Gotham and the Caesars Column reminded us just how differently the poor are portrayed then the rich. The poor almost treated like another species. Gordon My  last example even feels less of a man because he lacks the ability to provide. Lacking the one thing in modern times that makes a man a man.Gordon's lack of funds show how unfit he is to survive  there is a way things are the upper class lives another life.Social Darwinism explains who gets to be rich and who stays poor. All of our content just puts it into perspective.

In Caesars Column we see strong images of Social Darwinism on a consistent basis.Social Darwinism is the appliance of the "survival of the fittest" theory in a modern setting. Its a common theme in all bodies of work we look into. Right now I will pay very close attention to this passage in Caesars Column. " there was no spring to their steps and no laughter in their eyes; all were spare of frame and stolid or hungry-looking. The faces of the middle aged men were haggard and wore a hopeless expression. " The way the underprivileged are described we can see how the world works. The poor do not get to be happy eat or even pretend to be happy. Who decides who is rich and who is poor is society. Thats survival of the fittest at its finest. If the poor were worthy to be happy they wouldn't have to suffer. This book drives the thought that the poor need to suffer and don't deserve it flourish. They are so stuck in their ways they are  poor and will die that way.

" the civilization of years can be overthrown in almost any human being in a very few days "
You will lose yourself overtime if you leave your habitat. We are all products of our environment and once we leave our environment we become a new being. We return to being exactly what we are in this case a wild beast. The colorful language describes a scene where a woman is attempting to make her in the right direction. Then she compares her to a wild animal claiming that once you take a child out of the city and back into the wild they will lose their civil disposition and turn back into a savage. She tells that to the girl because the girl is trying to figure out how to thrive in the city. This passage connects the story so well by being one of her first its a prophecy the girls transforming and then going back to how she was before. This passage is revealing the idea that  at the end of the day we are all uncivilized and as soon as we leave civilization we will turn back into animals." She swims for a day, a year , sinks drowns dies." pg 18 New York is a struggle at first shes trying to figure out how to survive. That's what this novel has been to me so far just the main character fighting trying to figure out how she will be able to figure the city out. The two passages connect because the woman claims that even if she does figure it out she will revert to exactly who she was before she entered the city. The big issue is her survival her adaptation.

On today's menu we will be discussing the Railroad riots of 1877. Essentially during this time period there was a shortage of jobs and a surplus of workers.Whenever that happens society is struggling. employers had so much power that they could treat their workers unfairly and paid them so little. The working man wanted to complain, but he was so replaceable he could not. The lower class man could not protest his low wage and no benefits stuck in a job that was paying him just enough that he wouldn't be dead. This is terrible I am happy this is no longer allowed a vicious cycle of workers being replaced so easily. If they had so many workers why could they not figure out a way to make more jobs creating more jobs would create more product and make more revenue it would resolve its self why did no one think of this its as if the rich wanted the poor to stay poor back then.

Flour riots

Hello how are you doing, my name is Eddie Lopez. The "flour riot of 1873" was a terrible situation
Seeing the situation as an outsider you can tell that riots is where it was heading. They were overcharging for an imported resource flour. We are all use to inflation in the 21st century but the price jump was ridiculous. Flour jumped from 7 dollars a barrel to 12 dollars a barrel. The jump was too much for the people. At the end of the riot the People threw all the flour on the ground so no one could have it . This could have been so easily avoided.People don't have a good history of making good decisions in groups but when the Average Joe feels like he is being taken advantage of he will react. Greed was essentially the cause of these riots because they did not need to occur. Supply and demand why could they not buy in bigger quantities and sell for a lower price? They would have easily made a great profit if the flour demand was that high. Why did they did not see this coming?
